SILK : A STORY OF THREAD AND PASSION

SILK : A STORY OF THREAD AND PASSION

Light as air, fluid as water, silk is a symbol of refinement and delicacy.

This noble material has spanned the ages, captivating humanity for over four millennia, dressing emperors and queens, inspiring the greatest creators, and elevating garments to works of art. Behind this precious fabric lies a demanding craftsmanship, where patience and precision intertwine with passion.

But before becoming a garment that enhances the silhouette, silk has traveled through centuries and civilizations, weaving an exceptional story that we at LUCIE BROCHARD.võ continue to bring.

A THREAD BORN FROM A COCOON…AND A LEGEND

Legend has it that more than 4,000 years ago, the young Empress Leizu of China discovered silk by chance. While sipping tea beneath a mulberry tree, a silkworm cocoon fell into her cup. As she removed it, she unwound a thread of unparalleled fineness and brilliance… and thus, silk was born, destined to captivate the world.

Of course, we haven’t actually recovered that teacup, but archaeologists confirm that silk production indeed began in ancient China, with evidence dating as far back as 2,700 BCE.

Silk didn’t stay in China for long. This precious textile quickly traversed mountains and deserts along the Silk Road. Caravans laden with shimmering bolts of silk connected Asia to Europe, exchanging textiles, spices, and stories.

The Romans adored it, as did the Persians. Silk became a symbol of power and refinement, and weaving techniques continued to evolve over the centuries.

VIETNAM : A LAND OF SILK  AND LIVING CRAFTMANSHIP

Though China invented silk, Vietnam has kept it alive in its own way, with a strong identity and a tradition of craftsmanship passed down through generations.

In villages like Van Phuc near Hanoi or Bao Loc, artisans continue to practice ancient techniques with passion. They raise the bombyx mori (the famous silkworms that feed exclusively on mulberry leaves) harvest the cocoons by hand, and transform them into filaments up to a kilometer long!

These threads are then twisted, hand-dyed, often with natural pigments from plants or minerals, and woven on handlooms. Depending on the region and family traditions, they produce smooth silks, wild silks, or thick silks with iridescent sheens. This deeply rooted craftsmanship is becoming increasingly rare, yet continues to thrive thanks to respectful and structured partnerships between designers and artisans.

LUCIE BROCHARD.võ: SILK AS AN EXPRESSION OF MOVEMENT AND COMMITMENT

At LUCIE BROCHARD.võ, silk is more than a fabric, it’s a living material that moves with the body and reveals the force within every woman. Each piece fuses this millennia-old savoir-faire with a contemporary vision of creation.

The choice of materials, the precision of the cuts, the richness of the colors, all celebrate an elegance that is fluid, free, and powerful.

Each garment is created with passionate Vietnamese artisans, preserving endangered craftsmanship and weaving bonds of trust and respect. Each piece is the fruit of this synergy, where ethical commitment and contemporary creation come together.

At LUCIE BROCHARD.võ, silk is alive. It caresses the skin, accompanies every gesture, and reveals the strength of every woman. Silk here is a story of shared know-how and values that brings luxury the freedom to reinvent itself.

Because beyond aesthetics, we believe fashion has a role to play: to celebrate craftsmanship, to create connections, and to allow every woman to express herself fully.

THE SILK WE MAGNIFY

To give life to our pieces, we meticulously select exceptional silks, each carrying its own nuances and emotions:

Silk Satin

Sumptuous and luminous, it glides sensually against the skin.

Originating in China, silk satin is renowned for its exceptional sheen and softness, thanks to a satin weave that creates one glossy side and one matte side. What makes it unique is its ability to “capture” movements, its surface is sensitive to pressure, heat, and light, temporarily preserving the traces of folds, creases, and even the body itself like a fleeting textile memory.

Silk Jacquard

Refined weaving that reveals subtle motifs.

Developed in the 19th century, this technique allows for complex patterns (floral or geometric) woven directly into the fabric using the Jacquard loom. Interestingly, this was the first “coded” textile in the world, inspiring early computers.

Moiré Jacquard

A spectacular finish that combines jacquard weaving with a shimmering, undulating moiré effect, like ripples on water.

Achieved by pressing the fabric between engraved cylinders, it creates a mesmerizing play of light and texture.

Silk-Viscose

An innovative blend marrying natural silk with plant-based viscose.

This hybrid fabric is fluid and slightly weightier than pure silk, offering an enhanced drape and a balance of brilliance and suppleness.

Silk Twill

Robust and elegant, it lends character to every piece.

This diagonal weave gives a fluid drape and an exceptional hold without stiffness, ideal for scarves, shirts, and fluid trousers.

Crêpe Georgette

Airy and supple, offering incomparable fluidity.

Semi-transparent with a dry, textured touch, it’s named after Parisian designer Georgette de la Plante.

Silk Habotai

Softness and delicacy at the skin’s surface.

Originally from Japan and once used for summer kimonos, this fine silk is prized for linings, scarves, and luxurious prints, often described by Japanese dyers as a “living paper” that captures the artist’s intent.

Bamboo Silk

A breathable, cloud-soft alternative.

Combining the luxurious feel of silk with regenerated bamboo cellulose, it’s fluid, antibacterial, and environmentally responsible.

Silk Organza

Historically used in Chinese traditional garments, this fine, stiff, transparent silk is prized for bridal gowns and voluminous skirts, famous for its subtle rustling sound, a sign of quality.

Silk Chiffon

Sheer and weightless, creating ethereal silhouettes.

Originally from India and introduced to Europe in the 18th century, this ultra-light fabric holds more air than material, ideal for layered or draped eveningwear.

Silk Lace

A touch of mystery and sensuality.

Dating back to the Renaissance, silk lace is renowned for its softness and exceptional delicacy. Each floral or geometric motif demands immense skill and time, making it a true labor of love.
